Governance and Management

The DVC, Academic and Student Affairs (ASA): supports ODeL in all the academic and administrative affairs. The ODeL directorate reports to the DVC (ASA)

The Director is in charge of overseeing all the day to day activities of the ODeL Directorate. All the ODeL staff are answerable to the Director. The ODeL Director also sits in the Deans Committee which is responsible for informing the University Management Board (UMB) on key matters relating to academic affairs. The ODeL also acts as the secretariat to the ODeL Board responsible in rolling out and managing the distance learning programmes

The technical administrator is responsible for planning for optimal usage of the ODeL systems and ensures compliance of corporate guidelines in technical administrative assistance functions.

The administrative assistant is responsible for interpreting university policies to the ODeL Directorate. He/she is also responsible for maintaining the register of communication passing through the ODeL directorate. He/she carries out clerical tasks such as setting appointments, arranging meetings, editing memos, letters and reports

User support assistants are responsible for supporting the users of the ODeL systems. This involves carrying out training to academic staff and students, troubleshooting system faults, installations and configuring of applications. These also are responsible for preparing a procedural documentation and reports of the system applications in use. They also test and evaluate new technologies in the ODeL Directorate.

The instructional system designers are responsible for designing instructional management systems. They also evaluate the new e-learning materials as well as creating educational podcast, videos and content. They are also responsible for establishing new learning models and implementing feedback from reviews.

The multimedia specialist is responsible for creating multimedia designs in liaison with instruction systems designer and content developers.

In addition to the above the Directorate has future plans of growing the number of staff that are engaged in the ODeL Directorate towards improving the education service delivery to the University and students.
